Helpful Business Tips

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we want to switch things up and give your business some helpful resources during this time.

Here are the top CDC-recommended tips that business owners can take to mitigate risk, protect your employees, and support your customers during this pandemic:

  • Establish a remote work option- There are several free tools online to help teams stay in touch and keep working. Create a policy that covers when you expect your team to be available, how to communicate, and what each person is responsible for.

  • Reduce travel and meetings- Try to keep opportunities for exposure at a minimum.

  • Give your employees flexibility- With so many campuses and businesses closing, you'll need to offer some flexibility with your employees. Unexpected closures could cause parents and caretakers to be absent. Try to be as understanding as possible when something comes up and have a contingency plan in place for working with a smaller staff.

  • Offer transparency- We're all in this together, so be transparent with your customers and employees. People empathize with brands facing a crisis, just communicate your situation clearly.

  • Be proactive about cleanliness- Stop the spread of the virus by following the CDC's health and safety tips. Click here for more details.

  • Try an online sales strategy- If you have to close your doors, find ways to keep your employees working and business moving. Advertise on social media, update your website, and utilize your email newsletter lists.

  • Consider business interruption insurance- Business interruption insurance may be an option for you if you have significant business losses as a result of shutting down from the pandemic. Ask your insurance broker about coverage.

  • Plan for the long term- Although other economies are starting to recover, the spread of this virus is still extending throughout the world, creating a ripple effect that will impact us for sometime. Start communicating with your suppliers, investors, partners, and local officials to learn how to implement safeguards that will help you.

There are many options that you can turn to during the outbreak to help continue business without having to take a major loss. Some extra resources for you to check out are listed below.
