Director's Note - August 2020

Normal. The standard definition offered is “conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.” I miss “normal.” Going where we want, when we want, without hesitation or restrictions. The hug from a friend at the grocery store. The customary shaking of hands before parting ways. A packed restaurant with lively conservation and laughter. Yes, I miss “normal” very much! As the only thing constant is change, no matter what the future holds, we will adapt and, dare I say, flourish, in the days ahead. Maybe these trying times will inspire us to see things from a different perspective; to shatter old paradigms, stagnant methods, and limiting thoughts. Hopefully, a little reflection will occur and we will treat each other with more courtesy, dignity, and respect. There will always be unexpected occurrences in our lives but how we respond to these situations is in our control. For those of you who have met the challenges and fluidity of this situation head on, I applaud your willingness to turn the obstacles into opportunities and persevere through these unprecedented times! For those spirited entrepreneurs willing to start a new business in the middle of this uncertainty, I applaud the daring and undaunted pursuit of your dreams! You all are the heart and soul of our community and it is a privilege to work with each of you. We are here for YOU! If we can assist in any way, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Here in Mena, we truly are “in this together!” "I'm convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the nonsuccessful ones is pure perseverance." Steve Jobs Warm regards, Pasha Watson Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
