Director's Note - November 2020

While it seems as 2020 has been the longest five years ever, there is the realization that it is very soon to be in the books. Reflecting on all that happened this year and looking forward to the day of giving thanks, really helps to provide perspective. There are many, many things I am personally thankful for. But the thought came to share what I am professionally thankful for. However, those two are so completely intertwined they cannot be separated. In no particular order, I am blessed by and very thankful for: A community that unceasingly rallies to overcome any difficulties placed in its path. Friends that feel like family. The sense of pride when visitors gush about the beauty and charm we have here. The courage of our business owners who continue to rise up, meet unprecedented challenges, and the community who stands, supports and fights alongside them. The sense of responsibility when a community member is in need of help. Our amazing Chamber members without whom we couldn't do what we do. People who give of themselves, and their time, for all of us. The knowing that there will be better and brighter days ahead. And coffee! I am thankful for coffee. As you plan your menu and gather around the table this year, remember the words of Jim Davis; "Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie." Happy Thanksgiving! Pasha Watson Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
