Volunteer of the Year
Brian Hensley: Serves on the UofA Rich Mountain Foundation Board, Assistant Director of MYFA, coaches several youth sports, Volunteer Treasurer for Christ Community Fellowship, Volunteer Cook for Union Bank. Brian is an excellent role model and always ready to help youth stay involved in sports no matter their situation.
Tina Ball: Over 12 years served as Shelter Manager at the Humane Society of the Ouachitas, spearheaded the spay/neuter programs, trained employees, fostered animals, applied for and received grants to maintain and improve the shelter. Tina has spent numerous hours of personal time and expense rescuing animals and helping employees.
Tiffany Lane: Serves on the Board of Directors for Mena Art Gallery and Southwest Artists, is an active member of two very important committees within the organizations. Worked to obtain grants to help fund an existing show as well as a new show. Tiffany has donated both time and money to keep the gallery open during shows and receptions. Also served as President of the local Rotary Club and treasurer of the Depot Commission. Tiffany plays music in her church and has given the use of her office building for church meetings during the church's construction. Other organizational involvements include: ARCO and UofA Extension Corporate Advisory, as well as state level representation for the local Rotary chapter.
Shelly Harvey: Heavily involved in Relay for Life and donates many hours to supporting this fundraising cause.
Shannon Clifford: Volunteers with BASE of the Ouachitas, Clarice's Room of Hope, and veterans organizations. Offers face painting for non-profit fundraising events and festivals such Lum-N-Abner, Special Olympics, etc and the proceeds go to the non-profit.
Citizen of the Year
Linda Johnson: Brought "The Wall", Vietnam Memorial to Mena, organizes the Veteran's Day Parade, volunteers and serves on boards at several organizations including Ouachita Little Theatre and VFW. Linda has tirelessly worked towards receiving grants for local organizations and is active at the UofA Rich Mountain and in Sociable Seniors. Has received numerous awards in her work for veterans.
Sarah Curry: Sarah has been employed at Union Bank of Mena for 43 years and has been involved in numerous civic organizations over the years.
Scott Sawyer: Currently serving as Sheriff of Polk County.
Sandra Thomas: Volunteers at her church, successfully implemented new program at Heritage Monument, provides "Attorney in Fact" support to elderly. Sandra is a member of the Southwest Artists Board and chairs their Marketing & Promotion Committee. Represents Mena and Polk County through her various jobs and volunteer commitments.
Mark Hobson: Local radio personality who regularly gives volunteer time to requesting organizations. Mark worked to keep locals informed during disaster situations and entertained daily with his radio show.
Chris Daniel: For over 30 years, Chris has served and worked in Polk County. Has worked with the local radio stations as well as his own Christian radio station KAWX Radio in Mena. Volunteers time often to the benefit of the community. Serves as President of two non-profit ministries. Those are: Community Radio, Inc. and Pine Crest Cemetery. He is also a past President of Fresh Start Pregnancy Resource Center.
